# Discovery

The Discovery API provides full-text search and field-level querying across all entity types in your metadata catalog. Under the hood, OpenMetadata uses **Elasticsearch** to index and search metadata, giving you powerful query capabilities including fuzzy matching, filters, and aggregations.
